Registration required by visiting https://mostateparks.com/learn2-aim (ages 10+) Begin your archery journey and take a step back in time. Join Missouri State Parks to learn new skills with joint instruction on the basics of archery and atlatl throwing.

If you were in the woods by yourself with nothing but a string and a knife, would you be able to survive? Have you made a fire without matches or a lighter? Could you fashion a snare or trap to catch an animal for food or make a fishing pole? Would you like to learn how to use an Atlatl? These are some of the primitive hunting skills we will discuss and learn to use. Bring your sense of adventure and join us for this fun, informative session.

Let’s take your little one to a creek! We will take a short hike to Burr Oak Creek to splash and experience this watery world. You and your babe will get wet. You must have on closed-toe shoes for safety. Umbrella strollers not recommended. Short walk from parking lot. Bring a change of clothes for your babe and towel.

What is 5-Stand? It’s a great way to improve on your shotgun shooting skills! This combination of trap, skeet, and sporting clays affords the challenge of all three games but with less walking. You will learn the rules of the game, etiquette, shotgun & choke selection and much more. Bring your own shotgun or use ours.

Registration required (adults) Grab your walking shoes and get ready for a leisurely stroll through the tree lined streets of Calvary, Forest Hill and Rose Hill cemeteries. Covering roughly two miles, this slow-paced hike will utilize cemetery roads and some sidewalks as we discover the beautiful trees of the area. During the hike we will discuss native and non-native trees and the threats to them, wildlife that rely on trees, hiking safety and other great urban hikes. The instructor will e-mail the exact meeting location to participants the week prior to the hike. You will receive an e-mail from the instructor if weather conditions indicate a need to cancel the program. If accommodations are needed, please e-mail the instructor after registering and at least one week prior to the program.

Now that you have harvested the buck of your dreams, do you know how to prepare it properly to take it to the taxidermist. There are several different ways to preserve the hide so that the taxidermist can make your deer come to life on your wall. Learn the proper steps to go from the field to the taxidermist. Anyone under age 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Did you know Archery is one of the safest sports in which to participate? It is rated more accident-free than every ball sport except table tennis! This course is designed to introduce students to the basics of archery including safety rules, stance, equipment used, and, of course, how to shoot a bow and arrow. The instructors will also discuss the nomenclature of the bows and arrows. Join us for this fun and very informative class

Registration required (adults) Grab your walking shoes and join this hike through the Columbus Park and River Market neighborhoods. Covering roughly three miles, this moderately paced hike will utilize sidewalks to explore nature in these older neighborhoods. During the hike we will discuss native and invasive plants, wildlife ID, hiking safety and other great urban hikes in KC. The instructor will e-mail the exact meeting location to participants the week prior to the hike. You will receive an e-mail from the instructor if weather conditions indicate a need to cancel the program.
