MACON, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will offer a bowfishing clinic, 5:30–8:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 15.

“Bowfishing is the pursuit of fish with a bow and arrow and is more like small game hunting than fishing,” said MDC Conservation Educator Rob Garver. “Bowfishing is a legal method for catching nongame fish, and is an exciting way to pursue these fish that typically draw little interest with traditional methods.”

This basic course will start with a presentation on rules, regulations, and equipment. After covering fish identification, participants will head down to the spillway to try out newly learned skills. Participants should dress for the weather, and plan to possibly get wet and muddy. MDC will provide equipment, but participants are welcome to bring their own.

To help ensure public health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic, MDC asks all participants to observe current, local guidelines regarding physical distancing and masking. MDC encourages participants to bring and wear face coverings when appropriate.

Preregistration is required at mdc-event-web.s3licensing.com/Event/EventDetails/178003.

Participants must be at least 10-years old. Participants younger than 16-years old must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Families now have the option to link their children’s accounts to their own accounts which will streamline the program registration process.  Once a group account is setup parents will be able to register their children to an event without having to logoff and login for each individual.  This functionality will allow parents to register their entire family or select family members to an event at the same time.  First, users will log into their account and click “My Group Profile,” then add family members to their account.  Setting up a group account today will make program registration quicker and easier for all MDC programs.

MDC offers Discover Nature programs to help Missourians explore nature and master outdoor skills together.  For more information about this bowfishing clinic, contact Garver at Rob.Garver@mdc.mo.gov, or (660) 785-2420.
